More...Awesome Internet Safety Resources!

Go Back

Here at SimpleCyberLife.com we not only try and be the best resource online for internet safety but we're also constantly on the look out for other awesome resources to share with you!

Here is yet another short compilation of some really awesome internet safety resources to help you keep your family safe online.

Note: we have no affiliation with any of the organisations below (except where we reference ourselves obviously!). Our recommendations are always based on merit and not any commission or money making arrangement with affiliates.

NSPCC's Netaware for Guides on Social Media, Apps & Games

The UK charity provides something called 'NetAware', an online hub that provides periodic updates on popular kids apps, games and social media platform.

Most useful is it has a search functionality where you can find a particular [insert app/game/thing here]! It doesn't cover all games (like for example commonsensemedia.com might) but it does cover the most popular ones.

SimpleCyberLife.com's Protection Checklists

Yes, a shameless plug but these are truly unique in the world of internet safety. We acknowledge that parents are time pressed and aren't able to get all their protection in place in one sitting. We therefore created 'Protection Checklists' that tell you what you need in terms of protection and then help you get that protection in place.

Importantly, they then help you track the completion of those tasks over time through your member dashboard!

Then it gets even better...within each 'task' you get a how-to video which tells you how to get that protection in place and a link to the forum where if you're having any issues you can ask an expert for advice immediately!

You need to be a member but you can trial it all for free for a whole month! Check it out here.

CommonCraft for Critical Thinking & Digital Citizenship

Now this is a diamond in the rough! A fantastic resource which provides some really engaging videos on how to teach your children about the internet and digital family living.

It focuses on all the right things like digital citizenship, being kind online and learning behaviours rather than stopping kids from doing/seeing stuff.

They offer a premium membership which gives you access to everything (not just the free stuff) but at £159/year it is expensive which is a shame, but well worth it for the free stuff they offer!

ReportHarmfulContent.com for reporting and investigations

In simple terms, harmful content is anything online which causes a person distress or harm.

This encompasses a huge amount of content and can be very subjective depending on the viewer; what may be harmful to one person might not be considered an issue by someone else. In short, they help review reports made about the following eight types of online harm:

  • Online Abuse
  • Bullying or Harassment
  • Threats
  • Impersonation
  • Unwanted Sexual Advances (Not Image Based)
  • Violent Content
  • Self-Harm or Suicide Content
  • Pornographic Content

UK Safer Internet Centre's Hotline for Reporting & Removing Sexual Images of Children Online

These guys have a dedicated hotline for helping to remove illegal and harmful images of children online.

They help victims of child sexual abuse worldwide by identifying and removing online images and videos of their abuse. They search for child sexual abuse images and videos and offer a place for the public to report them anonymously. They then work with technological partners and law enforcement to have them removed.
